Welcome to our Getting Started Guide for our Adobe Illustrator Active Learning Curriculum on Teachable.

I have been posting our new Full-Length Adobe Illustrator Tutorials, Challenges and Workflows over the last year to Teachable*. Many of you are coming over from YouTube and like the Follow Along Process of our Step by Step Tutorials (Active Learning.) This Adobe Illustrator Curriculum was designed for those of you who like to Learn by Doing.

What we are focusing in on during each Full-Length Module is how to Apply the Tools and Options of Adobe Illustrator and Immediately Apply them within a Workflow. Our Workflow Model is my favorite way to teach Adobe Illustrator since it Builds in the Sequence and Order of Events as you are Practicing and Using the Tools.

What we are going to do in our Getting Started Guide is catch you up on How to Download Illustrator Resources, Select a Unit Block and Follow Along with our 100 Full-Length Learning Modules in our Adobe Illustrator Active Learning Curriculum on Teachable*.

STEP #1: DOWNLOAD OUR BRUSHES, TEXTURES + RESOURCES. The first step to Following Along in our Active Learning Curriculum will be to download and extract our Illustrator Brushes + Resources Folders. Follow Along to our Getting Started Guide to download Brushes, Textures and Tutorial Resources. Our Active Learning Curriculum on Teachable includes our (updated) 200 Illustrator Brushes + (new) 400 Textures as a Getting Started Bonus.

STEP #2: SELECT A UNIT BLOCK OR TOOL-BASED WORKFLOW TO START. Unit Blocks are designed to organize our 100 Learning Modules into a Focus or Tool-Based Workflow. Unit Blocks and Tool-Based Workflows are designed to get you Building in Adobe Illustrator Independently by Learning and Applying the Tools. Our Active Learning Curriculum on Teachable includes our Tool-Based Workflows, Unit Blocks and Pro Series.

STEP #3: FOLLOW ALONG TO OUR 100 LEARNING MODULES ON TEACHABLE. There are currently 100 Full-Length Adobe Illustrator Tutorials, Challenges and Tool-Based Workflows in our Active Learning Curriculum on Teachable. Each Full-Length Learning Module is in our step by step or follow along format. Follow Along on Teachable to our 100 Full-Length Adobe Illustrator Tutorials, Challenges and Workflows.

DOWNLOAD OUR TUTORIAL RESOURCE FOLDER. Our Tutorial Resources for the 100 Learning Modules on Teachable are located in the Getting Started Guide. I recommend practicing from what you intend on using in Adobe Illustrator: Photo, Trace or Sketch. Some of our newer Learning Modules will start from a Photo Reference or Blank Artboard. Follow Along to the Getting Started Guide to Learn How to Download Resources, Place Guides, and Create Template Layers.

DOWNLOAD OUR ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR BRUSHES. I have updated the Adobe Illustrator Brush Libraries to include more Pressure Sensitivity. You can use our Brushes with the Pen, Pencil or Paint Brush Tools. Download each of the Brush Zipped Folders: (Original and Updated). Once the Folders have been Extracted, the Brushes are Ready for Illustrator. Follow Along to the Getting Started Guide to Learn How to Save, Apply and Edit the (Updated) Brushes to User Defined.

DOWNLOAD TEXTURES BUNDLE. Textures are designed as BMP Files to use with your Transparency Panel, Blending Modes and Opacity Masks. Simply File - Place in Textures to use in Illustrator. We also have our Pattern Fills to use with the Blob Brush and Live Paint for Spot Textures. Textures will come at the end of the workflow, so you just need to Download and Extract the Folder as you are Getting Started. Follow Along to the Getting Started Guide to Learn How to Place, Color BMP's and use Opacity Masks.

IF YOU ARE ALREADY ENROLLED IN ACTIVE LEARNING, YOU CAN SELECT ANY UNIT BLOCK.

DRAWING FOCUS: A lot of our newer Tutorials, Challenges and Workflows have a Drawing for Illustrator Lesson to incorporate the Full-Workflow starting from the Drawing Step. Start on the Drawing for Illustrator Lessons after you have completed our Getting Started Guide or have completed some of our step by Step Tutorials and are ready to incorporate more of your own drawings into the Tutorials.

PEN TOOL FOCUS: The nice part of the Pen Tool Workflow is it is it have a high level of control over your Anchor Points but it can be frustrating as a beginner. Go through both methods of applying the Pen Tool and compare and contrast to your own artwork. Start on the Pen Tool Modules if you do not have a Tablet or if you are going to do more Professional Logo Based Vector Artwork.

TABLET-BASED FOCUS: The Pencil Tool is my go to tool for the Tablet and brand new users to Adobe Illustrator. It allows for speed, but also offers more control than Pressure Settings. I would start on the Pencil Tool Workflows if you are new to Adobe Illustrator and have a Tablet. Our Tablet Tutorials are very popular on YouTube so many of you will already have a Tablet to start.

TABLET-BASED PRESSURE FOCUS: We are focusing on our Tablet Series with our Pressure Tools in Adobe Illustrator. Our Pressure Workflow works best for a hand drawn look or cartoon style to a design. Start on the Pressure Workflows if you have a Tablet and are looking to use your Pressure Settings within your Workflow in Adobe Illustrator.

TEXT-BASED DESIGN FOCUS: Most of our attention will be in the Appearance Panel and Layering multiple effects for our Text Based Designs. There are some using Pen Tool Construction while others use Fonts as the Tutorial Resource. Our Text-Based Designs are in an Open Format to Use Your Own Fonts, Colors and Text. Start on the Type and Text Tool after you have completed the Pen or Pencil Tool Workflows.

SHAPE-BASED DESIGN FOCUS: We will be still building out in a Step by Step Format, however our Shape-Based Designs are in an Open Format or Template Building Format to add in your Own Fonts, Text and Colors. Our Shape-Based Tutorials are designed to be at the end of the Workflow Units so you can use your own artwork to insert into the Logos and Shape Based Designs.
